I love your blog. Very cerebral! Honestly, I have been very afraid of call myself an ex-Muslim and still trying to get over cognitive dissonance with my upbringing. In a strange way, I feel like I have to keep my Muslim identity because of the politic climate in the U.S.
I couldn’t ignore the pain my family went through after 9/11 and I guess, protecting my muslim identity was a way to cope with it. It’s all psychological for me. Listening to you makes me realize that protecting this identity, logically, does not make any sense, but I might need to read more to come to that conclusion.
You’re very intelligent and keep up the good work. I wish I would have taken more polisci or international studies classes.
Thank you so much!

There’s nothing wrong with protecting these identities from bigotry. I face anti Muslim bigotry too. Even as an ex Muslim. But I’m critical of the *negative parts* of Islamic scriptures and their influence on society.

Sorry, I have double posted. I am anti-bigotry, too. I guess I just do not know how to separate the social and religious identities of being a muslim. I am an agnostic and have always been critical of the religion but still call myself a muslim. This is my problem.

That’s no problem at all. I did that for a while too. There’s an entire Facebook group called “agnostic Muslim and friends” go check it out
There’s also ali rizvi, a writer coming out with a book on July called Muslim atheist. He calls himself cultural Muslim. Look him up 🙂
I think these labels including cultural Muslim are harmful to larger atheist cause because it makes us look smaller than we really are (check out John Silverman talk with Dave rubin on YouTube)
(Also check out ali rizvi talk with Dave rubin)
But everybody’s entitled to their own choice. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think of all that material ^

It doesn’t require certain classes in college in today’s world. You have access to the Internet and the local library. Go dig! Look up the masked Arab on YouTube. He’s amazing
Also i have a contact form in this site in case you’d like to communicate further

Yes, I will use that communication form. I will read up and watch your sources.
